Effective date: 27 August 2026 Last updated: 27 August 2026
This Privacy Notice explains how Taxivago ApS processes your personal data when you use the Taxivago app and website (the “Taxivago Platform”) to request taxi services in Denmark. It supplements our Terms of Service, available at https://www.taxivago.dk/en/terms/.
1. Who is responsible for your data
Data controller: Taxivago ApS · CVR 42731676 · Sletvej 2E, 8310 Tranbjerg · Email: info@taxivago.dk · Phone: +45 71 71 71 58
Taxivago is a licensed taxi dispatch office (kørselskontor) under the Danish Taxi Act, licence number 19647434. Rides are performed by independent taxi operators (vognmænd) affiliated with Taxivago; Section 6 explains what data they receive.
2. What data we collect
Account data — name, email address, mobile number, password (stored in hashed form), account settings and language.
Booking and trip data — pick-up and drop-off addresses, booking times, vehicle category, trip route, distance, duration, price, and your trip history. As a kørselskontor we are required by the Danish Taxi Act to collect and store data about every ride sold through the platform.
Location data — your device’s location when you use the App to request a ride, around pick-up and during the ride. This may include background location collection while a ride is being arranged or in progress — for example so the driver can find you and your trip can be tracked live. You control location permissions in your device settings; without location access, some features (automatic pick-up detection, live tracking) will not work.
Payment data — payment method type, card details in tokenised form held by our payment processor (we never store full card numbers), transaction history, receipts, and records of fees charged.
Communications — messages and calls between you and support, complaint records, and your marketing preferences and consent history.
Ratings and feedback — ratings you give after rides and feedback you submit.
Technical data — device type, operating system, app version, IP address, and log data used for security, debugging and fraud prevention.
In-vehicle video and audio — taxis in Denmark are required by law to be fitted with video surveillance (TV-overvågning). Recording is signposted in the vehicle. See Section 5.
3. Why we process your data and on what legal basis
To provide the service — creating your account, arranging and performing rides, matching you with a driver, processing payments, issuing receipts, and providing support. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
To comply with law — collecting and storing ride data as required by the Danish Taxi Act and reporting it to the authorities; keeping accounting records under the Danish Bookkeeping Act and tax legislation; responding to lawful requests from authorities. Legal basis: legal obligation (GDPR Art. 6(1)(c)).
Safety, security and fraud prevention — verifying accounts, preventing misuse of the platform, investigating suspected fraud or breaches of our Terms, and protecting customers and drivers. Legal basis: our legitimate interests in operating a safe and lawful service (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
Service improvement — analysing usage in aggregated or pseudonymised form to improve the App and our coverage. Legal basis: legitimate interests (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
Marketing — sending you news and offers by email or SMS only if you have consented, or within the existing-customer rule in § 10(2) of the Danish Marketing Practices Act. You can withdraw consent or opt out at any time, free of charge, via the unsubscribe link in any message, in the App’s settings, or by contacting us. Legal basis: consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)) or legitimate interests within the § 10(2) framework.
We do not use your personal data for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects for you.
4. Location data in detail
The App requests location permission so we can: show nearby available vehicles, set your pick-up point, let the driver navigate to you, track the trip for safety and quality purposes, and calculate or verify fixed prices. Location may be collected in the background from the time a ride is requested until it is completed. We do not track your location when no ride is being arranged or performed. You can limit location access in your device settings at any time; the App will tell you which features are affected.
5. In-vehicle video surveillance
All taxis operating in Denmark must be equipped with video surveillance under Danish taxi regulation, for the safety of both passengers and drivers. Recordings are made inside the vehicle and recording is indicated by signage in the vehicle.
Recordings are stored securely for the period permitted under the Danish Act on TV Surveillance and applicable data protection law, after which they are automatically deleted. Recordings are only accessed and disclosed where there is a legal basis to do so — in practice, disclosure to the police in connection with the investigation of a criminal offence, or where disclosure is otherwise required by law. Recordings are not used for marketing or any purpose unrelated to safety and legal compliance.
The camera equipment is installed in vehicles operated by our affiliated vognmænd. Responsibility for the surveillance is shared between Taxivago and the vognmand in accordance with Danish law; you can direct any request or question about recordings to us at info@taxivago.dk and we will coordinate the response.
6. Who we share your data with
Drivers and vognmænd — the driver assigned to your ride receives the information needed to perform it: your first name, pick-up and drop-off addresses, and any booking options (e.g. child seat). Phone contact between you and the driver is routed or masked where technically possible.
Service providers (data processors) — IT hosting and infrastructure, payment processing, SMS/email delivery, customer support tooling, and analytics providers. All processors act under data processing agreements and only on our instructions.
Authorities — the Danish Road Traffic Authority (Færdselsstyrelsen) receives ride data we are required to report under the Taxi Act; the tax authorities and other public authorities receive data where the law requires it; the police receive data, including video recordings, where there is a legal basis.
Corporate events — if Taxivago is involved in a merger, acquisition or asset sale, data may be transferred to the acquiring entity, subject to this Notice.
We do not sell your personal data.
7. Transfers outside the EU/EEA
We store and process data within the EU/EEA wherever possible. If a service provider processes data outside the EU/EEA, we ensure a valid transfer mechanism under GDPR Chapter V — an adequacy decision or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses with supplementary measures where needed. You can contact us for details of the safeguards applied.
8. How long we keep your data
- Ride and trip records — for the period required by the Danish Taxi Act and, for accounting records, 5 years from the end of the financial year under the Danish Bookkeeping Act.
- Account data — for as long as your account is active, and thereafter only as long as needed for the retention duties above or the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.
- Video recordings — for the short period permitted under the Danish Act on TV Surveillance, unless a specific incident requires preservation for a police investigation or legal claim.
- Marketing consent records — for as long as the consent is relied on, plus 2 years, to document compliance.
- Support and complaint records — up to 3 years after the case is closed, or longer where a legal claim requires it.
When a retention period expires, data is deleted or anonymised.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR and the Danish Data Protection Act you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- rectify inaccurate or incomplete data;
- erase data, where no legal retention duty or other exception applies;
- restrict processing in certain situations;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time;
- data portability — receive data you have provided in a structured, machine-readable format;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
To exercise any right, contact info@taxivago.dk. We respond within one month. Many things can also be handled directly in the App — updating account details, changing marketing preferences, or deleting your account.
If you are dissatisfied with how we handle your data, you can complain to:
Datatilsynet (the Danish Data Protection Agency) · Carl Jacobsens Vej 35, 2500 Valby · www.datatilsynet.dk
10. Security
We protect personal data with technical and organisational measures appropriate to the risk, including encryption in transit, access controls and logging, tokenised payment handling, and contractual security obligations on all processors. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach occurs that is likely to result in a high risk to you, we will notify you and Datatilsynet as required by the GDPR.
11. Children
The Taxivago Platform is intended for account holders aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children through account registration. Passengers under 18 may travel on rides booked by an account holder; trip data for such rides is linked to the account holder.
12. Cookies
The taxivago.dk website uses cookies and similar technologies as described in our Cookie Policy at https://www.taxivago.dk/en/cookie-policy/, where you can also manage your choices.
13. Changes to this Notice
We may update this Notice from time to time. Material changes will be notified via the App or by email before they take effect. The current version is always available at https://www.taxivago.dk/en/privacy-policy/ (Danish version: https://www.taxivago.dk/privatlivspolitik/).
